Palm Beach Blitz Report

Palm Beach Blitz Report

Australian Kayak Specialists today hosted the Palm Beach Blitz; a race style fishing comp and like its predecessors in the area, the event was a success.

On behalf of Australian Kayak Specialists I would firstly like to thank those who entered and participated in this event. Particularly those who travelled a fair distance to join in on the action.

It is always a tough ask, given that some of the participants travel hours with the potential of being off the water within minutes - that said the turnout was good and although 46 Entries were received, 36 Paddlers hit the water just before 5am. Again - given the forecast was for 17 knot winds, I appreciate the travellers making the effort.

The winner of this comp is essentially the first one back on the beach with one of the following fish:

  • Spotted Mackerel
  • Spanish Mackerel
  • Cobia
  • Longtail Tuna
  • Yellowfin Tuna
  • Mahi Mahi
  • GT
  • Wahoo
  • Marlin ( Photo Capture and Release) – You still need to be back on the beach first with evidence of capture to win the race.

1st, 2nd and 3rd are awarded prizes, followed by the person who scored the largest fish for the day.

The first paddler back on the beach, after being on the water a tad over 30 minutes was Tim Kreis.

Spanish in Hatch Tim claimed top honours. Followed by Olly Wren with a Spotty; and not far behind was Sean Van Der Walt who scored a Spotty.

Fish continued to trickle in with the Largest fish changing three times. Clive Mathias ending up with the Largest fish - scoring a 120 cm Spanish Mackerel.

After a brief discussion with Thomas prior to the prize giving, we are keen to potentially turn this event into a Dual Location Shootout ! As it is great fun. Keep your ear on the ground for the next one !

We have posted many of the images on Facebook already with a few more of the surf launch yet to come, so feel free to like, share and tag yourself !
