Stealth Adder Rock Offshore Challenge

Written by

Australian Kayak Specialists are proud to announce the Stealth Adder Rock offshore challenge.

A few weeks ago we put the word out that we were looking to host an offshore fishing competition on North Stradbroke Island and the response has, so far, been very positive.

We already have over 35 yak fisherman interested.

I encourage anyone, beginner or expert, young or old, male or female to join in on the fun. All kayaks are welcome.

So here are the details (put on your specs and get comfy it might take a while):

The comp will take place over the weekend 15th to 17th February 2013. So if you have expressed interest but cannot make it please notify me so that I can remove you from our list of attendees.

We will be setting up camp at Adder Rock as some suggested and we soon found out this campground allows for more participants and is ideally suited for what we want from this trip.

Each participant is responsible for booking their own campsite at Adder Rock for the weekend. Family are more than welcome to join in on the fun however, if you are not bringing family, you might want to consider sharing a site with a mate. Unpowered camp sites are available for $27 per night (6 m x 6 m) these sites allow for two people. If you wish to share a site with more mates, an extra fee of $8.50 per person per night applies. Only one vehicle may be parked on the site.

If you have a camper trailer or van there are sites available specifically for these.

Cabins are also available if camping is not your thing.

Bookings are first in best dressed and sites cannot be guaranteed to be next to each other however upon your arrival you can request a campsite in a specific area (these can be seen on the map if you follow this link -http://www.straddiecamping.com.au/assets/Adder-Rock-map-Straddie-Camping.pdf). Sea Eagle Hideaway and Goanna rest look like very suitable areas as they are nice and close to the beach.

You will need to book for Friday night and Saturday Night at least to be in this competition. Check out is at 10 am and with weigh in and prize giving on Sunday well after this it is advisable to book Sunday evening as well. A few of us will be staying the night anyway. Follow this link to book -http://www.straddiecamping.com.au/book-now.php

There are still many spaces available and Linda (the lady I have been dealing with from  Straddie Camping) suggests that Feb is usually not very busy. However, I would advise you to book your accommodation as soon as you can. You do not want to miss out on this opportunity.

Friday evening there will be a meet and greet for all the entrants to get together and share in a few beers and a few laughs (obviously not too many beers or the fishing might never happen). This will also be used as a briefing for comp rules.

Saturday will be the first official fishing day, details of weigh in times etc will follow in the run up to the comp.

Saturday evening you can choose to spend time with the family alone, join the group around the BBQ (I dare say there will be some fish to go around) or you can carefully calculate your next fishing outing This is totally up to you.

Sunday will again involve some fishing There will then be a weigh in at roughly 2 pm followed by a prize giving. It is then once again up to you as to what your next move is. Check out is at 10 am so if you are staying for weigh in and prize giving you will need to book this night as well or have dropped camp and packed up.

There will be prizes for biggest bag as well as the most number of species caught. There will be lucky draw prizes and catch and release prizes so dont forget your camera.

Entry into the competition will cost $40, which will cover the prizes and will include a welcome pack.

The Ferry operator that I have been dealing with has suggested that if we can get over ten vehicles the ferry would cost $120 rather than $146. Once again this cost can be lowered if you share a vehicle and a site with a mate. It has been confirmed that a coupon code will be used to receive the discounted rate, details to follow.

Be advised that any silver foxes out there Pensioners get a cheaper rate than this anyway. $110, so dont shoot yourself in the foot.

If you have made your booking and would like to confirm your place in the comp please email me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and we can confirm your place.

We have about 35 interested at this stage The maximum we can feasibly handle for this comp would be around 50 entrants. So once again, whilst there are spaces available at the moment I would not leave this to the last minute either as we expect a few more to join, once we put the hard work out there. Entries will close by 15 January 2013.

Please Remember that this is a social event so we would like politics left at the door lets make it as fun as possible.

If you have any questions about the site, accommodation etc. visit http://www.straddiecamping.com.au/index.php

If you have questions about the actual comp please email me, I will gladly help you, please remember we are finalising the comp rules, prize allocation and more so details will follow.
